Overview
Dismantling is planned as carefully as erection. Components are removed in a controlled sequence, gathered, and cleared from the working area so the next activity can proceed.
What dismantling involves
Dismantling runs in the reverse order of erection: decks and guardrails removed level by level from the top down, ties released only as each lift comes off, and components lowered rather than dropped. The work area underneath is kept clear of people while the lift above is being stripped.
Material is gathered, counted against the delivered list and loaded for return, and the area is swept and handed back so the following trade or the client can use it.
When to schedule removal
Scaffolding usually stays until the last activity that depends on it is signed off — final coating, inspection, snagging or testing. Removing it too early means re-erecting; leaving it too long keeps rented material on site and blocks access, parking or following works.
On plant sites removal is often tied to the end of a shutdown or test window, so the dismantling date is agreed with the same permit and access arrangements used for erection.
Safety and quality notes
Partial dismantling leaves a structure that is no longer the one that was inspected. Any scaffolding left standing in a part-stripped state is taken out of service until it has been made complete again and re-inspected.
Components are inspected as they come down; bent, cracked or badly corroded parts are set aside rather than returned to the rental stock.
