Overview

LVI planks form the decking of a scaffold platform. They are supplied and rented alongside the scaffolding scope, in the lengths and quantities the platform layout requires.

What LVI planks are

LVI planks are pressed steel decking units with hooked ends that sit over scaffold ledgers to form the working platform. They give a flat, non-combustible walking surface with a perforated or punched face that drains water and sheds dust and grit.

Planks are supplied in set lengths and widths so a platform is made up from a counted number of units per bay, together with the toe boards and guardrails that complete the deck edge.

When steel decking is preferred

Steel decking is chosen where timber is unsuitable or restricted: hot work and welding areas, plant and refinery sites, long-duration scaffolds exposed to weather, and platforms that must take repeated traffic and material without splitting or sagging.

They also suit access walkways and crossings where a consistent, interlocked deck is easier to keep tidy and inspect than loose boards.

Safety and quality notes

Platforms should be fully decked with planks hooked over the ledgers and no unplanned gaps, and edges completed with guardrails and toe boards. Planks are not a substitute for a designed structure beneath them.

Units are checked for bent hooks, deep corrosion and distortion before dispatch and again when they are returned; damaged planks are taken out of stock rather than reissued.
